I loved reading this book so much I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed how the relationship developed between Monroe and Olivia. Monroe was definitely the strong silent type who never knew love or tenderness in his life. Olivia had been through so much herself but was determined to have the life of her dreams for herself and her two young sons. I also wanted to mention that this is my first book by Curtiss Ann Matlock and I can hardly wait to read another one. This book really has such well developed characters and storyline. I love when a book gives you emotional depth.

ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS by Curtiss Ann Matlock was a delightfully entertaining read which captivated the reader throughout with romance, humor, mystery and a touch of adventure.
Curtiss Ann Matlock has delivered a beautiful and warm Christmas story just in time for our own Christmas Holidays. Her way with words draws you right into the story and makes the reader feel as if they are right there and a part of the work, the heartache and the love on the Texas ranch. Olivia is a woman with a believable spark. I did not want to see this story end. I hope that in time the author will write a sequel to this beautiful romance.
I really enjoyed the story about the problems in the old West and things they had to overcome. It was a clean romantic love story and very entertaining. It also showed how Christmas can be a glorious day of celebration, no matter the hardships or troubles.

It's a heartwarming Christmas story that I really enjoyed. I would have enjoyed a bit more of an ending though. It ended a bit too abruptly for me. Good, clean read for anyone who enjoys good old fashioned Christmas in the West.
Sweet holiday romance. Short story with lots of interesting characters. Seems like there should be a sequel. I feel th a t there was some unfinished business that needed to be cleared up, mainly about the feud between the cattle ranchers and the sheep farmers. At least an epilogue?
This is the first time I have read this author I'm not sure I will read more from her. It was ok. She does very well with descriptions and had a great story line but the problems I had with it were the the leading lady was to much of a super woman. Their was no way she could have accomplished everything she did in a day. It was just a bit over the top on her accomplishments daily. Also the author referred to the hero by his first and last name allot. This left me somewhat distanced from the book and not able to get into the story as much.
Olivia Pritchet and her two sons ride from North Carolina to Texas by stagecoach/train so that she can marry John Carter, a man she had met a few months earlier. After the two week trip, she arrived at Esperar to learn that John had died two days before. His partner, Monroe Locket grudgingly agree for her to go to the ranch he and John owned and stay until the next stagecoach came by going north. John had built a cabin for them, and her desire was to see it and spend Christmas with her two sons there. The story becomes complicated as Monroe begins to change his abstinent mind about having a woman around. Her homemaking, cooking and care for others eventually rubbed off on Monroe, and by the time the stagecoach came through, Monroe knew he loved Olivia and wanted to marry her. This story has many twists and turns but is good reading although not a Christian romance.
