This is a nice beginners book. I am a beginner for woodburning. There are patterns in for each project in the book, plus each project has a photo of it. They only thing they don't have is the instructions for making the wooden projects, just the burn designs. But the wood pieces give you ideas for what to find around the house or build. I very much loved the album cover in the photo on the front of the book.

it was a xmas present and they loved it.
I got this book from the library before purchasing and am glad I did. Whether you will like this book depends a lot on your experience, skill level, and what kind of woodburning you enjoy. The author states up front that all of the projects in the book were completed with a single temp, hobby burner with interchangeable tips that can be bought at stores such as Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Her instructions are pretty good and she has some good pointers on coloring and foiling your work. The projects all involve embellishing purchased wood items such as boxes, clocks, picture frames, etc., many of which could be used to make quick gifts or sale items. If this is what you are interested in, It is not a bad book and has a number of instructions for the beginning pyrographer. If you are purchasing mainly for the patterns, you will find line drawings of simple cats, dogs, flowers and fruit, but I would say that by purchasing Dover design books you could probably find similar patterns at a cheaper price. If you burn primarily with variable temp burners such as Razertip or Colwood, you may want some of the more intricate and advanced projects that require shading and layering. If so, I would look to such authors as Sue Walters and Lora Irish and give this one a miss.
I bought this book because it got such a good review from another customer. It lived up to its billing. I've invested in a good burner and am having a lot of fun trying out all the techniques.

Informative, with several projects and patterns. I like this book because it uses the basic wood burner and tips from Walnut Hollow.
This book will help a beginning wood burner to accomplish simpe techniques . It contains patterns also. While I wouldn't call it the ultimate woodburning book it is a good basic book to start with.
