GOON SQUAD #1 The New Girl eBook Jonathan L Howard
Good Squad is a comic in prose form. Nadiya, the lead character, is a mystery. We learn about her past in bits and pieces as the story progresses. However, we never learn about her childhood or how she came to be. The story begins with Nadiya choosing a course of action that she thinks will get her, at the least, arrested. Imagine her surprise when she is recruited for a crime fighting task force. The story is very short. It is part of a serialized novel. Even though I really enjoyed the story I think for the price point it is listed at, it should be twice as long. I enjoyed the writing, the premise and the introduction of side characters. I've read the next two "books" in the series and I will probably read the fourth. While I enjoyed them immensely I think they are too expensive, thus 4 stars instead of 5.

GOON SQUAD #1 The New Girl eBook Jonathan L Howard Reviews
I enjoyed the story very much. I like the characters, and I'd like to see what happens. It's a really good start.
I've read all four of the Goon Squad series thus far, and have been very pleased. They're witty, intriguing, and exciting (sometimes within the same paragraph), and well worth the (very) modest $0.99 price. Looking forward to more!
I'm beginning to think Jonathan Howard can write any genre well. I hope he never tests me by trying his hand at romance, but if he did, I'd buy it and give it a shot.
What's so hard about being a normal petite young lady that is one of the victims of a shotgun robbery and watches a young l ad get eaten? Go curl up and cry? No she won't, she will chase the arrogant down and then get arrested by the constables.
A very fast comic read that's a blast to enjoy. Nicely done!
I really, really enjoyed this book. As others have said, it's very British, but I actually love that. It helps to create it's distinctive feel, and I never had trouble with any of the colloquialisms as it pertained to understanding the story. I also loved Howard's voice, and it's already affecting how I view my own work going forward (it gave me permission to be a lot more relaxed with my descriptions). I immediately picked up the second issue and, as of this writing, I'm on Issue #5. I'm enjoying the ride thus far and look forward to more from the Goon Squad!
While I also found this a bit short for a stand-alone intro piece, I am so pleased I bought installment #2. This is definitely a story worth following & the "prose comic" format is great fun. Intriguing characters, nifty setting, well worth the .99¢ per story.
Howard's quirky descriptives pay the price of admission by themselves & his marvelously twisted creativity has invented a Manchester I've quite enjoyed visiting. Hopefully the Mischievous Gods of Speculative Fiction will bless us with further 'Goon Squad' issues!
I do recommend other US readers try this now, in its current format with dictionary, unless they have a good grasp of Britishisms, as I've gone to the dictionary with 'Goon Squad' #s1-3 a couple times to get the full flavor of the story (and my Grands were from the UK so I'm no stranger to some of the slang).
You are getting only about 500 to 1000 words here. The plot is the usual semi-secret band of misfits with abilities fight for justice and to protect...blah blah blah....
That being said, there's a bit of humor and some at least halfway decent writing to set things up and a bit of back story enough to hold interest. My expectations are very low; the hurdles I expect it to leap over could be stepped on and pushed into the sod without knowing they are there. and yet, I only pick 1 in a hundred books to even sample and only tolerate 1 in 3 of those. This is in the top third. Not top 10 percent.
