The pace is good.
Would be even better if Kevin didn't keep rehashing the pasts of some of the characters. It is like he has copied and pasted certain sections over and over. Please never let me read about ,Zoe's father's death again and what happened on Rakkem, or he breeding project with Nira please

So with impossible odds stacked against humanity. We are hooked, hopeful for a win for humanity and our friends the Ildirans.

I loved the first series and it's twists and turns. I was looking forward to this series but unfortunately this book has "sequel disease" like most mass market these days. The plot takes too long to develop because there is too much rehashing of the other book storylines. It ruins the flow of the book to have to continually reread what you already know.
Kevin Anderson never fails to write the some of most detailed characters and story lines in the world of science fiction. no spoilers here just my opinion on this very enjoyable read.
I've been a fan of Kevin J. Anderson since I started his Saga of the Seven Suns series. When I discovered that he was continuing the series with the a new group Saga of Shadows, I bought it immediately. I read it in 2 days & it is great. I am looking forward to his next series.
Kevin J Anderson has created a fantastic universe with the Saga, in my view second only to that of Frank Herbert's Dune.
This is the second book in a trilogy set twenty years post The Saga of Seven Suns series. Some of our favorite characters return, and we meet some new ones that may surprise us.
And the Klikiss Robots! YIKES!
Now waiting impatiently for the concluding volume.

Another excellent book from Kevin J Anderson. I absolutely love this author. He gives you an excellent space opera that doesn't get confusing with technical jargon.
I have yet to read a book by Kevin J. Anderson that I didn't like. There was several times I stayed up much too late reading in bed. This new series by him is very good. The chapters are very short and keep me wanting more. I'd recommend this book to anyone. It builds off his previous series "The saga of the seven suns" and I was glad I read the previous series first. This series takes place 20 years after the first series and although it is it's own story it does take place in the same universe and some of the characters are in both. Get them both and enjoy.
Complex and rich. Thoroughly enjoyable. I am excited for book three. Something myself and others have struggled with is the format of the book. It is not a linear read. Inter-weaving so many story lines and characters causes the author to circle back and sometimes seeming to re-introduce characters. Some people might think this is poor authorship and structure. I respectfully disagree. I think it's a matter of format choice and reader expectations.
